There are two types of IELTS exams : Academic and General. As per the name, the Academic is for those who want to study abroad and General is for those going for business, PR purposes, Immigration Employment, work migration.

Exam Pattern

Writing
Duration: 60 minutes

The writing section consists of two tasks
Task 1:  it will ask to analyse, explain and compare the given data to evaluate the writing skills of the student.
Task 2:  Will check the efficiency of the student in writing an essay on a specific general topic.

Speaking
Duration:  11 – 14 Minutes

  • The Speaking test consists of an oral interview between the test takers’ and an examiner. All Speaking tests are recorded.
  • This section is held as a personal interview and is of 11 minutes in duration. The test is not held on the actual day of IELTS   but either a day before or after. The segment consists of three parts which are classified as personal, long talk and discussion.  The test is interactive in nature and you will be talking to an examiner.

IELTS result is Valid for Two Years only.
The IELTS score ranges from 1-9 for each module. The average produces your overall band score.

IELTS General Training

Listening and speaking components are same for both – Academic and General Training.

 It consists of three sections. The texts in these sections are taken from notices, advertisements, leaflets, newspapers, instruction manuals, books or magazines. The language and difficulty level of these texts is higher as compared to Academic.

Marks:  1 mark per question

Writing
It consists of two tasks of general interest. The test takers are advised to complete both the tasks.
